Paleoenvironmental and Bio-Sequence Stratigraphic Analysis of the Cretaceous Pelagic Carbonates of Eastern Tethys, Sulaiman Range, Pakistan

The Cretaceous pelagic carbonate succession, i.e., Goru Formation was studied in the Chutair Section, Sulaiman Range, representing part of eastern Tethys for paleoenvironment and bio-sequence stratigraphy. Eight planktonic foraminiferal biozones are identified which include: 1. Muricohedbergella planispira Interval Zone; 2. Ticinella primula 3. Biticinella breggiensis 4. Rotalipora appenninica 5. cushmani Total Range 6. Whiteinella archeocretacea Partial 7. Helvetoglobotruncana helvetica 8. Marginotruncana sigali Zone Albian-Turonian age. petrographic studies revealed five microfacies: Radiolarians-rich wacke-packestone microfacies; wackestone Planktonic packestone indicating deposition outer-ramp to deep basinal settings. Based on facies variations biozones, 2nd 3rd order cycles identified, further include six transgressive regressive system tracts. sea level curve showed fluctuation between deep-basin, showing overall transgression cycle study area, coincides with Global Sea Level Curve; however, represents local tectonic control during strata.
